The announcement of the HLF’s approval of the £5 million grant at a meeting of the South Cliff Community Group was quite an emotional event. Here’s the reaction from Vicky Thompson – the Project Officer.

Great news announced at this morning’s meeting of the South Cliff Community Group – the HLF grant has been approved!
A crowded meeting greeted the news with enthusiastic applause.
The Heritage Lottery Fund required that for the final bid to be successful, there had to be a financial commitment from the various communities who would benefit from a successful project outcome.
The requirement was that £125,000 was raised as community funding.

The “long lost tunnel” is one of the design proposals that has received a lot of support.
It will enable visitors to walk all the way through the gardens from the Spa Bridge in the north to Holbeck in the south.
